FMTV Bandtrack Over Wheels
GS Engineering was awarded a Phase I and II SBIR contracts to develop a ‘Track over Wheels’ prototype for the FMTV to significantly enhance soft soil mobility. The effort began with the development of a dynamic analytical model, which was validated using experimental data, and used to study the overall design intent, layout and vehicle configurations for various concepts. The calibrated analytical model was then used to optimize the design for a rubber track concept.

GSE contracted the rubber track development to Camoplast, and then designed an innovative, yet robust track tensioning system. The track and tensioning system were installed on the FMTV, and the test vehicle was instrumented by GS Engineering with 32 channels of data acquisition transducers, and run through a series off road tests including fall and winter (snowy) conditions.
GSE has developed track over tire prototypes for customers, and is collaborating on new rubber bandtrack developments in a Phase III contract.
