GS Engineering received $84,543 in awards through Michigan's Going PRO Talent Fund to support employee training. The funding will enable GS Engineering employees to participate in training that aligns with the company's growth strategy, addresses their career interests, enhances their knowledge and skills, and enables them to add value to our clients. Staff training and professional development are key components in achieving GS Engineering's corporate mission: To provide uncompromising solutions through advanced knowledge, critical thinking, and a fresh perspective, while prioritizing employee’s quality of life and making a positive impact in communities. In a rapidly changing world, continuing education is critical to maintaining and developing relevant skills to keep employees at the cutting edge of their fields of expertise.
Funding from this award is part of GS Engineering's annual training program and will be used throughout 2023 for group training as well as individualized training in highly specialized technical areas. 15 unique courses have been identified covering topics as diverse as project management, systems engineering, data management, and other core topics in engineering and product design. These represent growing needs and performance gaps for GS Engineering's clients, who rely on GS Engineering to address them. “We have ambitious goals to grow our business by expanding the knowledge and skills of our current workforce. This funding, provided to us by the state, will be a catalyst to accelerate this process,” says Chuck Gaff Technology Growth Manager.
The Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity - Workforce Development awards funds to employers through Michigan Works! Agencies (MWA). The MWA Business Services staff conduct fact-finding sessions with employers to assess their talent skill gaps, suitable training providers and availability of federal funding sources. The MWA Business Services staff can then determine whether Talent Fund awards would be appropriate to help close the skills gap.
