GS Engineering welcomes Colonel Fred Dente, U.S. Army Retired, as Vice President for Strategy and Growth. Fred brings 30 years of operational leadership, modernization experience, and hands on integration work across the Joint Force.
Fred spent his career delivering capability under pressure. He solved modernization problems while requirements shifted, timelines tightened, and missions demanded immediate action. He recently served as a senior leader in the Army’s tactical headquarters in Europe, where he saw up close what capabilities soldiers need on the modern battlefield and the tremendous pace of innovation. He then served as Chief of Operations for the Army’s Next Generation Combat Vehicle Team in Warren MI, where he helped design and implement the Department of War’s acquisition reform effort.
Fred built a reputation for turning operational problems into engineering tasks that industry can execute. He worked with OEMs, small businesses, and non-traditional partners to help them understand warfighter needs, navigate acquisition pathways, and align emerging technologies with gaps. His experience spans tactical formations, major commands, and modernization organizations. He knows exactly where capability stalls between concept and fielding, and he knows how to move it forward.

Fred sees expanding opportunities for GS Engineering as the Department of Defense shifts toward modular open systems, rapid prototyping, iterative fielding, and shorter decision cycles. Organizations that integrate quickly and execute with technical rigor will shape the next generation of capability. “Integration creates the biggest choke point in modernization,” Fred said. “Agile engineering firms like GS can close that gap. They bring the speed and disciplined engineering that primes and government customers need to keep programs moving.”
Fred believes small businesses will drive the next era of defense modernization. Their ability to innovate quickly, pivot without bureaucracy, take smart technical risks, and compress timelines makes them essential to delivering capability at tempo.
